Colorado Springs, CO

Financial advisor in Colorado Springs for the years around retirement.

We help people turn what they have saved into a plan for monthly income, from an office on North Cascade Avenue.

What we do, and who we do it for

Papa Wealth Management is a financial advisor in Colorado Springs, CO that focuses on retirement income planning. We work with people five to ten years on either side of retirement, many in the tech and defense industries, and plan where monthly income will come from before we choose a portfolio.

Five to ten years from retirement, or just past it
You have built something worth protecting and want a plan that is designed to give you consistent lifetime income. Decisions such as Social Security timing and pension elections are often still open.
Many are in the tech and defense industries
Stock compensation, pensions and deferred plans can make an income plan more complicated. We describe the general issues here and look at your own paperwork in the conversation.
Probably not a fit if you want to pick your own stocks
We build plans around income, not trade ideas. If you want someone to execute trades you choose, or you want the highest possible return, we are likely not the right firm.

How we plan

Retirement planning in Colorado Springs, CO: the plan comes before the portfolio

The Next Phase Plan divides your retirement into consecutive five-year segments. Near-term income is held in stable assets, and later segments stay invested for growth because they have years before they are spent. Each segment has one job, and the plan is built from your income needs rather than a risk questionnaire.

A plan like this is designed to organize your income needs and reduce guesswork. It cannot remove market risk, and the outcome depends on your situation, taxes and how markets behave.

Your first conversation

What to expect when you call or come in

  • It is a conversation

You tell us what you want retirement to look like and what worries you. We tell you honestly whether what you have may support it.

  • About thirty minutes

At our downtown office, on a video call, or by phone, whichever suits you. There is no cost and no obligation.

  • Nothing required to bring

Recent statements and a Social Security estimate help us be specific. If you do not have them yet, we can still have a useful first talk.

  • We will say if we are not a fit

That does happen, and saying so in the first meeting is better for everyone.

Services

Four services, planned around your income

We start with the retirement income plan. Concentrated stock, tax-smart investing and private markets are each considered in light of it, and each has its own risks and trade-offs.
  • Retirement Income Planning

Retirement income planning decides where your monthly money comes from once your employment paycheck stops. It covers Social Security timing, pension elections, withdrawal sequencing, and taxes. It is a different job from growing a portfolio, and it needs a different plan.

    Retirement Income Planning
  • Concentrated Stock Strategies

A concentrated position is generally any single holding worth more than roughly 10% to 20% of your investable assets. It is common for long-tenured employees who received stock grants, participated in an employee stock purchase plan, or held shares through an acquisition. The risk is that one company's bad year becomes your bad decade.

    Concentrated Stock Strategies
  • Tax-Smart Investing

Tax-smart investing means managing the tax cost of a portfolio, not just its returns. In practice that is three things: harvesting losses to offset gains, holding each asset in the account type that taxes it least, and withdrawing in an order that keeps you out of higher brackets.

    Tax-Smart Investing
  • Private Markets & Alternatives

Alternative investments — private equity, private credit, real assets — are generally suited to money you will not need for a long time. In a segmented income plan, that means the later segments.

Questions

Questions people ask before they call

We build portfolios at Charles Schwab on a fee basis. Fees depend on your situation, so we walk through the exact schedule in the first conversation, before you decide anything. The firm's disclosures also describe its services, fees and business practices.

Nothing is required. If you have recent account statements and a Social Security estimate, bring them, because they let us be more specific. If you do not, we can still talk through what you want retirement to look like and what worries you.

Plan on about thirty minutes. You can come to our office at 101 North Cascade Avenue in downtown Colorado Springs, or meet by video or phone. There is no cost and no obligation, and if we are not the right fit, we will tell you.

The people who get the most from our work usually have around $1 million or more in investable assets. We have made exceptions for people who are still building and are about five years from retirement. If you are unsure, ask in the first conversation.

Our process works best when planning starts about five years before retirement. That leaves time to shape your tax picture and position assets before you need them. You do not need a firm retirement date, and a range is enough to begin.

No. Our office is downtown and many clients live nearby, and we also meet by phone or video. Our representatives may only discuss securities business with residents of Alabama, Colorado, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia. Please see our disclosures for details.
