Most retirement plans are built to grow your money. Yours has to pay you a monthly income.

We build income plans for people who are five to ten years on either side of retirement. Not a growth portfolio with a withdrawal rate attached — a plan built around what you actually need to spend, month by month. No two of ours look the same.

Your portfolio averaged 9% a year.
Is that good?

The volatility tax

Two portfolios. The one that earned less ended up with more.

Both retirees started with the same savings and took the same monthly income. One portfolio averaged 9.0% a year. The other averaged 9.5%. Twenty years later, the one that averaged less had more money left — and the difference was not returns. It was the order they arrived in.

Accumulation vs. distribution

The plan that got you here may be the wrong plan for what comes next.

While you are working, a down year is an inconvenience. You do not sell anything — you wait. Once you are withdrawing, a down year means selling shares at a discount, and those shares never come back.

Adding money

A drop is a discount. Every paycheck buys more shares at a lower price, and you never had to sell anything.

Taking money out

A drop is permanent. You sell shares to eat, at the worst possible price, and those shares are not there when the market comes back.

First 5 years of taking distributions

With the wrong plan, a rough start could take more than a decade off how long your money lasts.

Our process

The Next Phase Plan®

The money paying you next year should not be sitting in the market. The money paying you in 2056 should be. So we do not build one portfolio — we build a series of them, lined up along your retirement, each with a different job.

The starting scenario

Change one answer and the allocation changes — not just the total. Claiming Social Security at 70 barely moves what the whole plan costs, but it nearly doubles what Segments 1 and 2 have to carry — because you are funding the gap yourself until the checks start. That is why two people with the same savings do not get the same plan.

How it works

How we work together

  1. The Next Phase Conversation

Thirty minutes. We map where your income is actually going to come from — Social Security, a pension if you have one, rental income, and what your investments need to cover after that.

  2. Your Next Phase Plan

We build a plan around your real numbers: your timing, your spouse's timing, your taxes, and your outside income. You will see exactly what is paying you and when.

  3. Your paycheck starts

The plan goes live and the money shows up monthly.

Who we serve

Built for the years around retirement.

We work best with people who are five to ten years on either side of retirement who have built something worth protecting, and want a plan that gives them consistent lifetime income. A good share of them are tied into the tech and defense contracting industries.

And who we are probably not right for

If you want to pick your own stocks and have someone execute your trades, that is not us. If you want the highest possible return and you are comfortable with the ride, that is not us either. We are built for people who want consistent monthly income and a plan they do not have to think about.

Questions

Straight answers

The people who get the most from what we do usually have around $1 million or more in investable assets. We have made plenty of exceptions for people still building, especially tech and defense executives who are earning well and are about five years out.

We are fee-based. Portfolios are held at Charles Schwab and we are paid a percentage of what we manage, so we do better when you do. We are not paid commissions to sell you products. We will walk through the exact schedule in our first conversation.

No. A lot of people think you retire, buy an annuity, and everything is solved. It can also lock up your money when you need flexibility most. We are plan-driven, not product-driven. If a product fits your plan, we will say so.

Most portfolios are built around a risk tolerance questionnaire. Ours are built around your income — what you need, when you need it, and where it comes from. While you are still saving, that difference matters very little. Once you start withdrawing, it matters a great deal.

Usually two to three weeks from our first conversation, once we have your statements and your Social Security estimates. We would rather take an extra week than hand you something we have not stress-tested.

No. We can work with clients in all 50 states. Most of our clients are in and around Colorado Springs, but we have clients all over the country.

We listen. You tell us what you want retirement to look like and what worries you about it. We will tell you honestly whether what you have will support it. There is no cost and no obligation, and if we are not the right fit we will say so.

Let us find out what your portfolio can actually pay you.

Thirty minutes to see where your income will come from. If we are not the right fit, we will tell you.
