Who we serve

You are five to ten years from your last paycheck.

This is the window where the decisions are still reversible and the numbers are finally real.

Why 55 to 65 is the window that matters

The decade around retirement is when planning is the most important. Your savings are near their peak, your income is still high enough to shape your tax picture, and you have not yet locked in Social Security or a pension election. After you retire, some of these decisions are irreversible.

Your savings are near their peak
Which means a bad first five years can do more damage now than at almost any other point in your life.
Your bracket is about to change
The gap between your last working year and your first retired year is often one of the biggest tax planning opportunities you will get.
Nothing is locked in yet
Social Security timing, a pension election, Roth conversions, and how you unwind company stock are all still open decisions.

What this complicates

Where the standard advice breaks down

The plan that got you here may not work anymore

Everything you did for 35 years — save steadily, stay invested, ignore the noise — was correct for accumulating. None of it tells you which account to withdraw from, or what to do when the market falls in the year you retire.

The first five years carry most of the risk

Poor returns early in retirement, combined with withdrawals, do damage that later good years cannot undo. This is one of the most under-planned risks we see, and it is entirely addressable if you deal with it before you retire.

Your spouse's timing changes the plan

If you are five years apart, your Social Security starts at different times, your Medicare starts at different times, and your income plan looks different from that of a same-age couple with identical savings.

Why us

Based in Colorado Springs. Working with clients across the country.

Our office is in downtown Colorado Springs. Most of our clients live in and around the city, and the rest live all over the country. What they have in common is timing: they are close to retirement and want income they can count on.

If you are nearby, you can come in and sit down with us. If you are not, we meet by phone or video call. Either way, when something changes, you reach someone who knows you.

Questions

Common questions

Our process works best when the planning starts five years before retirement. That is enough runway to shape your tax picture and position assets before you need them, and close enough that the numbers are real rather than a guess about a distant future.

No. Plenty of people come in with a range rather than a date, and part of the work is finding out which dates actually work. Knowing that 63 works and 61 does not is often the most useful thing you learn.

Many people we meet do. The question worth asking is whether your current plan addresses what happens when you start withdrawing, or whether it is a growth portfolio with a withdrawal rate attached. If it is the second, that is worth a conversation.

Let us find out what your portfolio can actually pay you.
